Appointment of next CEO of KIPP Northern California

The KIPP Public Schools Northern California Board of Directors is thrilled to announce the appointment of Cherese Brauer as the new CEO of KIPP Public Schools Northern California, effective July 1, 2021!

Over the past several months, the Board has engaged in a national search and rigorous selection process that included input from the families, staff, and the Board of Directors, representing a broad cross-section of the organization. The search process has reinforced that KIPP Northern California’s team members, both collectively and individually, are among the most committed, thoughtful, experienced, and effective leaders and educators in the country. In fact, the national search revealed that the most qualified person to lead KIPP Northern California in its next chapter is someone who is already part of our team and family.

Cherese brings both depth of knowledge of our core strengths and a powerful vision for fulfilling our promise of working together with families and communities to create and sustain joyful, academically excellent schools.

She is a proven leader with deep respect throughout KIPP’s national network and beyond. She strongly believes that schools should cherish and fortify all children, and we are confident that our schools will continue to succeed and flourish under her leadership and vision.

Cherese has extensive and successful experience in classroom teaching, leadership coaching, and instructional leadership. She began her career in education as an elementary and English language learning teacher. She then served as a middle school teacher, vice principal, and founding school leader at some of KIPP DC’s first schools. After more than a decade teaching in and leading excellent schools, she became Director of Instructional Leadership at KIPP Foundation, and we were lucky to welcome her to the KIPP Northern California team as founding Chief Equity & Inclusion Officer in 2018.

We are extremely excited for this next chapter as we warmly welcome Cherese into this new role, and we are confident that KIPP Northern California is positioned for even greater success in the years to come.
