Dr. Alysa Tison Yee

Principal

When Alyssa was 13, her parents moved their entire family to South Los Angeles from in hopes that their children would have better education and ultimately, more access to opportunities. In middle school, Alyssa experienced first hand the challenges of being a student of color, from a low-income family and neighborhood, in a public school with predominantly Black and Brown students. At the end of her time at UC Berkeley, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Sciences, she decided that in her own way she would transgress the status quo, go back to her community and use teaching as a way to make a difference. Alyssa was able to come back to South LA and teach high school Biology and Environmental Sciences. In 2014, Alyssa sought out opportunities to deepen her teaching practices. She received her first Masters Degree of Education from UCLA and shortly after, transitioned to the Bay Area seeking opportunities to put her knowledge and skills in practice. She found her way to San Lorenzo, Ca at KIPP Summit Academy and served as the as the 7th grade Science teacher. Surrounded by excellent leaders and passionate teachers, Alyssa developed her teaching and leadership skills. She served as a Science Department Chair, 7th Grade Level Chair and in 2019, transitioned as part of the Leadership team. Alyssa considers herself a life long learner and continued to pursue developing her teaching and leadership skills at Mills College where she earned her second masters and her doctorate degree in Educational Leadership. Grounded by her love for the KSA community, Dr. Tison Yee will continue to keep the school’s promise to San Lorenzo as KIPP Summit Academy’s School Leader. Outside of school, Dr. Tison Yee enjoys many hobbies including cooking, scoping out and trying new food places, planning out travel adventures, spending time with her husband (Michael) and their dog (Appa), working out to get physically stronger and playing video games.
