Megan grew up in Saint Louis, Missouri and attended Oberlin College to pursue her degree in Chemistry. After taking a student-led extracurricular at Oberlin around current systems and structures in Education, Ms. Walkenhorst decided to pursue Education. This journey led her to do Breakthrough in Philadelphia, work with Blueprint Schools in St. Louis and finally TFA in San Antonio. Ms. Walkenhorst taught Pre-AP Chemistry, AP Biology and Physics in San Antonio for four years before transitioning to Chicago to work at a Noble School. After teaching Chemistry for two more years, Ms. Walkenhorst transitioned into a Dean of Instruction-STEM role and then AP of Instruction. After meeting her husband, Ms. Walkenhorst then transitioned to California and on the recommendation of a friend who had previously worked at KIPP King, decided to apply for an AP of Instruction role. Ms. Walkenhorst now happily serves the students and families of KIPP King as their School Leader.
In her free time, Megan enjoys baking (loves Claire Saffitz), watching Tik Toks and going for walks.
