KIPP Valiant Community Prep Lower (grades TK-4) is a public charter school located in Menlo Park. We share a campus with our sister middle school (grades 5-8).

Sample Elementary School Schedule
Every student is greeted by name at the entrance. After free breakfast for all students, the school day begins with Morning Meeting—a time for teachers to check in with students, build community, set expectations for the day, and foster a sense of belonging for students.
After Morning Meeting, students work on their phonics, reading, and writing skills. We use research-based reading curricula in our classrooms, and our teachers are highly trained in supporting students to be strong readers. Students also have a morning break for snack and recess.
Students have time outside of the classroom to eat, socialize, play, and recharge. Free, nutritious lunches are provided for every student!
At KIPP, we use a proven math curriculum called Eureka Math² that supports students to build on algebraic concepts year after year. We encourage our youngest learners to think of themselves as mathematicians and problem solvers! Students also have the chance to tap into their creative side with classes like music, PE, and drama.
After regular day dismissal, KIPP offers free afterschool programming. Your student can stay on campus until the evening for fun and educational extracurricular activities, including sports, performing arts, tutoring, clubs, homework help, and more!

At KIPP Valiant Community Prep, we know that families need reliable, high-quality care that supports their child’s growth from morning through evening. That’s why we offer free, on-campus Expanded Learning Opportunities to provide a safe, structured, and engaging environment for all students.
After school, students can participate in our free expanded learning program, which runs Monday through Friday from dismissal until 6:00 p.m. Each day includes a healthy snack, dedicated homework support, and a mix of enrichment activities and structured play. Students build academic skills, explore new interests, stay active, and develop strong social-emotional skills with a supportive community.
Together, our before and after school programs extend the KIPP experience beyond the classroom, helping every child feel safe, supported, and inspired to grow.

Yes, any student can attend KIPP! There are no admissions requirements. KIPP schools are tuition-free, public schools open to all students, including English Language learners and students with special education needs.
Like all public schools, charter schools are open to any student who lives in the enrollment area. There is no entrance requirement, such as testing or prior academic record. At KIPP, if a school has more families wanting to attend than spaces available, we choose applicants at random through a blind lottery.

Yes, all KIPP schools are tuition-free, public schools open to all students. The KIPP Northern California network currently serves over 7,000 students at 23 schools across the Bay Area and Stockton.
Charter schools are tuition-free, independently operated public schools open to all students. They have greater flexibility when it comes to curriculum, teaching methods, and school operations in exchange for increased accountability. Charter schools are open to all students, using a lottery system if demand exceeds available spots.
Like all public schools, charter schools are held to state and federal academic standards, open to all students, including those with disabilities, funded primarily through federal, state, and local tax dollars, and are not affiliated with or restricted to a particular religious group.
The “charter” that establishes each school is a contract detailing the school’s mission, program plans, performance goals, and methods of assessment. Every public charter school has an authorizer that is responsible for holding the school accountable for compliance with their operating agreement or “charter.” In California, authorizers of charter schools are typically district school boards or county boards of education.

When family demand exceeds enrollment capacity at the school, students are admitted based upon on a lottery. Lotteries are typically held in the late winter or early spring.
If students apply after the date of the lottery, they will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis, as spaces become available.

KIPP first began in Houston, Texas in 1994. The first KIPP school in California opened in West Oakland in 2002. Since then, we have embarked on a transformative journey, growing to 23 schools across Northern California.
