At KIPP Northern California, our elementary schools lay the groundwork for a lifetime of academic and personal success. In our kindergarten through 4th grade classrooms, we create vibrant, child-friendly environments that spark curiosity and joy in learning. This nurturing atmosphere is paired with robust support systems, including mental health counselors accessible to all students, ensuring that every child feels known, respected, and empowered.
Our commitment to academic excellence is evident from the start—last school year, KIPP kindergarteners made remarkable progress in reading, with over 80% achieving grade-level proficiency, far surpassing the national average. With an additional 70 days of learning in reading and 80 days in math compared to non-KIPP schools, our students gain a solid foundation in literacy and math, setting them on a path to success in middle and high school.
Middle school at KIPP Northern California is where students begin to see the broader world and their place within it. We emphasize both academic growth and character development, helping students cultivate the resilience and leadership skills necessary for future success. In these crucial years, KIPP students are encouraged to step out of their comfort zones through student-led discussions, extracurricular activities, and clubs, all designed to foster a sense of belonging and purpose.
Our middle schoolers benefit from an environment that is not only academically rigorous but also supportive, with a racially diverse instructional team that reflects and affirms the identities of our students. The additional days of learning in core subjects give KIPP students an academic edge, and research from Mathematica shows that those who attend KIPP for both middle and high school are nearly twice as likely to graduate from college.
KIPP Northern California high schools are gateways to higher education and beyond. With a strong focus on college and career readiness, our students excel academically and personally. According to U.S. News & World Report, our high schools rank in the top 10% of public high schools nationwide, a testament to our commitment to excellence. Every KIPP high school graduate meets the A-G requirements, making them eligible for UC and CSU admission. Our students are ambitious, taking Advanced Placement tests at nearly three times the statewide average and passing at more than double the rate of their peers across California.
We ensure that our students are not only prepared for college but also for life, with comprehensive guidance from our KIPP Forward College and Career advisors who continue to support our alumni on their paths. With a wide array of electives, AP classes, and extracurricular activities, our students leave KIPP high schools equipped with the skills and mindset needed to thrive in whatever path they choose, including the 94% of our graduates who matriculate to college.
