Together with families and communities, KIPP Public Schools Northern California creates joyful, academically excellent schools that prepare students with the skills and confidence to pursue the paths they choose—college, career and beyond—so they can lead fulfilling lives and create a more just world.
History of KIPP Northern California Public Schools
Since the founding of our first school in 2002, we have embarked on a transformative journey, growing to 23 schools across Northern California, with plans to open a high school in Stockton in 2025. Our school communities are vibrant, diverse, and filled with endless potential. We celebrate the richness of our students’ backgrounds and experiences.
Where We Are
KIPP Public Schools Northern California has 23 schools in 7 cities educating elementary, middle, and high school students. Located in East Palo Alto, Oakland, Redwood City, San Francisco, San José, San Lorenzo, and now Stockton!
We are grateful to our community partners and the leaders in Stockton who invited us to partner with them to open a network of tuition free public schools open to all students. Our first KIPP Stockton school opened in 2021and this upcoming August, we will be opening our fifth school, KIPP Stockton High School. Learn more about our KIPP Stockton Community.
Special Education
KIPP Northern California provides high quality services for educating students with disabilities to prepare them for a successful transition to a choice-filled adult life. We recognize the unique needs of each student and design individualized education programs that enable each student to fully participate in and benefit from their KIPP school community and the world at large.

Mental Health & Wellness
KIPP Northern California aims to provide high-quality, client-centered, and culturally responsive mental health services designed to support students with varying levels of need. All students should have access to quality mental health services and as such, all services are free to students and provided regardless of insurance in order to reduce barriers to mental health care, meet students where they are at, and challenge mental health stigma.

- KIPP Northern California high schools are ranked in the top 10% of public high schools in the country, according to US News & World Report.
- KIPP NorCal outperforms the California state average in both Math and English Language Arts. For students classified as economically disadvantaged, KIPP NorCal is outpacing the state by 10 or more percentage points in both subjects.
Family & Community Partnerships
KIPP partners with families and local organizations in our communities to support healthy development for children.
- Our partners include El Concilio California, YMCA, Community Partnerships for Families of San Joaquin, Housing Authority of San Joaquin, Boys & Girls Club, College Track, Bayview Hunters’ Point Clinic, among many others.
College and Career Guidance
KIPP works with high school students and 4,000 alumni each year on the path to college, career, and beyond.
- Over time, 95% of all KIPP Northern California high school students have matriculated to 4-year colleges or other progressive pathways like AA or CTE certification programs.
- Our alumni graduate from college with bachelor’s degrees at three times the rate of their peers.

Our KIPP Community
KIPP students are guided in their learning by KIPP Northern California staff who share similar identities and backgrounds because we believe it is important that our students’ identities are reflected by our team. In doing so, our teachers affirm the identities and background of all of our student and create community within each school. KIPP Northern California students are supported academically, and professionally through elementary, middle, and high school. After graduation, our alumni are also supported through their post-secondary paths with our KIPP Forward program.
